2018 Super Street Rules

Super Streets continue to be an exciting division of Saturday night racing at Wiscasset Speedway!  The following rules are a continued effort by division participants working together for division growth with respect to car variations, affordability and fairness of competition. While we understand these rules may not perfect and may not encompass all cars, we request they not be interpreted as opportunities to cheat and/or discover loopholes to gain advantage.  We shall always welcome and work to accommodate all who respectfully meet the spirit of the rules and desire to join us racing Super Streets at Wiscasset Speedway.

DRIVER SAFETY REQUIREMENTS – drivers must wear the following required items at all times while on the racing surface. 

  1. One or two piece long sleeve SFI approved fire resistant suit in good condition and free of rips, tears or holes.
  2. Fire resistant shoes and gloves.
  3. Helmet must meet or exceed the Snell 2010 standard.
  4. Face shield, glasses or goggles.

Highly Recommended & Encouraged not yet required but you know it’s coming 😊

  1. Head and neck support/restraint safety device.

Recommended not required

  1. Fire resistant underwear, socks, and head stocking.


  1. Any American branded V-8 front engine, rear wheel drive, full frame or uni-body with a minimum wheelbase of one-hundred and one inches (101”). All cars must retain original wheel base for body and chassis used.  Exception:E. Full frame cars – ie – Monte Carlo, Cutlass, Grand Prix, Impala, Crown Victoria, etc. may be shortened to a minimum wheelbase of one hundred eight (108) inches.  Engine and body must be of the same manufacturer as the chassis used.
  2. Originally mass produced to seat a minimum of four (4) passengers.
  3. Sun roof must be covered with sheet steel of similar thickness to existing roof structure and welded into place. No convertibles or “T” tops.


  1. Minimum roll cage tubing specification 1¾ inch x .095 inch DOM or seamless tubing. In the interest of safety, water tubing, exhaust tubing, etc. is unacceptable.
  2. Minimum four (4) point roll cage is required. In addition to the required four (4) point roll cage, the structure may extend to the front as far as the radiator support and to the rear to sufficiently protect the fuel cell.  Left side must have a minimum of four (4) horizontal bars with spacers.  Right side must have a minimum of three (3) horizontal bars with spacers or an “X” and two (2) horizontal bars.
  3. A minimum of sixteen (16) gauge steel plate of sufficient length and width as to protect the driver must be welded to the roll cage.
  4. Any bar within the drivers reach must be padded with an approved product. Pipe insulation will not be acceptable.
  5. Front and rear firewall must be completely sealed from the driver compartment with sheet steel similar in thickness to existing car structure and securely welded in place.
  6. All welds are to be of high quality and must completely surround the joint. Absolutely no butt welds or sharp edges anywhere.
  7. A fabricated steering column must have a minimum of two (2) U-joints positioned so as not to allow the steering wheel to be pushed rearward in the event of a collision. Must have a steering column stop.
  8. Fuel cell must be a steel container with a check/rollover valve in the vent line; secured with two (2) straps front to rear and two (2) straps left to right. The minimum dimension of strap material is 1/8 inch x 1½ inch. Fuel cell may not be offset.
  9. All fuel filters must be of metal construction. No plastic, glass or other material will be allowed.
  10. Any line containing a combustible material must be steel and routed outside of the driver compartment.
  11. Electric fuel pumps must be wired through a low oil pressure cut off switch.
  12. Five point quick release harness system in good condition mounted with 3/8” bolts minimum Grade 8, washers and locking nuts. These must be attached at two (2) separate points on the frame, equal distance from the seat back and not less than twelve inches (12”) apart.  (See manufacturer instructions for details).  Sternum belts are highly recommended.
  13. Aluminum racing seat with right and left head supports. Seat must be mounted and attached securely to the cage. A support brace must be installed at the rear of the seat.
  14. Racing regulation window net with quick release attachment required to be securely installed on driver side window. Plastic, plastic brackets, tape, wire or any other makeshift window net creation and/or mounting devices will not be acceptable.  Window nets must be securely fastened at all times when car is on racing surface.
  15. Minimum three (3) pound fire extinguisher mounted with quick release metal bracket within reach of driver when belted in. Extinguisher must be operational with full gauge reading.  Plastic brackets, tape, wire or other makeshift mounting devices will not be acceptable.


  1. Must maintain shape, contour and similar sizing to a production automobile.
  2. All cars are to be identified as to the division by contrasting colored lettering at the top of the windshield. Lettering to be a minimum of three (3) inches.
  3. Aftermarket front and rear bumper covers allowed without modification except to accommodate radiator and brake cooling.  Aftermarket body panels (ie: ARbodies & 5 Star) are allowed.
  4. No dirt or wedge type noses.
  5. Full fenders, hood, roof, quarter panels and deck lid required at all times.
  6. Hood and deck lids must be tethered to the roll cage.
  7. Maximum spoiler size is six by sixty (6 x 60) inches mounted directly to the deck lid. No side boxing. Spoiler shall be made in two (2) sections each measuring six by thirty (6 x 30) inches and not connected in the middle.
  8. Minimum roof height is forty-six (46) inches measured twelve (12) inches from the center of the windshield.
  9. Minimum eighth (1/8) inch Lexan windshield required with rear window optional.
  10. No shelves, vanes, ribs, ledges or other airflow control devises.
  11. Rub rails must stay against the body and remain between the wheels.
  12. Lifting/towing chains or cables must be installed both at the front and the rear of the race car are required. Absolutely No Exception.
  13. All parts of the body including the nose and side skirts must maintain three (3) inch ground clearance.


  1. Any radiator that fits under the stock hood is allowed.
  2. Water and a cooling additive only. No antifreeze allowed.
  3. Must have a minimum one (1) quart capacity sealed overflow container.
  4. Car must not have fluid leaks of any kind.
  5. Battery must be in a sealed battery box and properly secured.
  6. All exhaust must pass through a muffler system effective in dampening sound. Must extend beyond the drivers compartment and turn down toward the ground with the end of exhaust system under the race car, not out the side or the rear of the race car.


  1. Front upper control arm mounts may be moved or fabricated.
  2. OEM lower front control arms only. Tubular upper control arms allowed.
  3. OEM type ball joints only. No mono-balls.  Front and Rear suspension must match make and model.
  4. OEM or Howe type one piece front sway bar allowed, maximum one and three eighths inch (1 3/8″).  Must remain in original location.
  5. Adjustable spring cups allowed.
  6. Adjustable leaf spring shackles and lowering blocks allowed.
  7. Only QA1 51 series or QA1 53 series allowed. No Bilstein Shocks Allowed. All shocks must remain completely unaltered with product number and name visibly identifiable.
  8. All shocks subject to claim by Wiscasset Speedway Management for one hundred twenty five dollar ($125.00) each at any time.
  9. Sealed struts only. No replacement cartridges.
  10. No suspension travel limiting devices of any kind allowed.
  11. Minimum front spring rate five hundred (500) pounds / inch.
  12. Minimum chassis height at lowest point is four (4) inches – any modification in an attempt to circumvent this rule will result in immediate disqualification.
  13. OEM type pitman arm and idler arm required. Heim joint tie rods allowed.  After market adjustable center (drag link) allowed.
  14. GM intermediate metric chassis may use any stamped steel OE type lower control arm.
  15. Coil spring rear suspension may be converted to a three point system with a straight panard bar.
  16. Springs and shocks can be either in front, behind or on top of differential housing. Both sides must be in the same location.
  17. Solid engine and transmission mounts allowed as long as original placement is maintained.
  18. Track width not to exceed sixty-six and one half (66 ½) inches as measured at spindle pin height.
  19. OEM cast spindles only. No aftermarket.
  20. No wide five (5) hubs or wheels.

  4. OEM cast iron block only.
  5. Maximum overbore .060 inch.
  6. No crankshaft modifications except as required for balancing.
  7. No offset grinding.
  8. OEM type connecting rods only.
  9. Any cast/ forged four valve relief piston allowed with no part of the piston to protrude above block deck surface.
  10. Hydraulic lifters and camshaft only. OEM diameter lifters only. No boring/bushing lifter bore. No Lifter Modifications.
  11. Stamped steel or roller rockers allowed – GM ratio to be 1.5-1; Ford and Chrysler to be determined.
  12. Max Valve Lift .450 inch. Valve lift will be checked by measuring lift at the camshaft lobe and multiplying that value by the nominal rocker arm ratio. EXAMPLE:  lobe lift = .300in x 1.50 rocker ratio = .450 inch valve lift.  No Tolerance.
  13. Cast iron OEM straight plug head castings only. No modification to port runners or combustion chambers allowed. Exception:  World Products #4361 allowed.
  14. Maximum valve size: 1.94 in. Intake 1.60 in. Exhaust. Stock type stainless steel valve allowed.
  15. No angle milling.
  16. Minimum combustion chamber volume 58 cc.
  17. 1.25 valve springs only. Retainers must be magnetic.
  18. Use of stock replacement heads from other manufacturers will be at the discretion of Speedway Management.
  1. Any OEM cast iron or aluminum intake with EGR provision allowed. Edelbrock #2101 or #2116 allowed.  Absolutely No Modifications.
  1. Holley #4412 required and must be unmodified, original castings that pass all aspects of the gauging system. Tuning variations such as jets, power valve and accelerator pump cam allowed.
  1. Choke assembly may be removed but the choke horn must remain intact without modification. Intake to carburetor adapter Mr. Gasket #1929/1937 only
  2. Pressed in air bleeds only.
  3. OEM type self contained ignition system only. No external/separate components.
  4. Under chassis steel tube headers allowed. No stepped headers.
  5. General Motors sealed crate part #8895-8602 may be used as an alternative motor as produced specifications shipped from manufacturer. No rebuild tolerances are permitted (IE: if it’s worn out….Replace it!) GM suggests when this motor needs to be “freshened” sell it to a hotrod builder and buy a new one. J The only allowable flywheel for this motor is GM part #147088646.  Carburetor is limited to one stock Holley 4776 or HP 80540-1 600 C.F.M four barrel. Must meet all gauging system measurements.  No alterations are allowed except for the removal of the choke plate and tower. Epoxies or other devices to alter the air flow in the manifold are not allowed.  Two (2) .070 thick gaskets are allowed with a maximum one (1) inch spacer.


  1. Any OEM cast iron three (3) speed manual transmissions allowed. No Modifications allowed.
  2. Manual transmission cars encouraged to use an explosion proof bell housing or ballistic blanket.
  3. Any three (3) or four (4) speed automatic transmission allowed. Must have a functioning torque converter.
  4. Car must have functional reverse gear.
  5. Steel driveshaft only and must be painted white.
  6. Driveshaft loop required near the front of the driveshaft with material specification minimum of quarter (1/4) inch by two (2) inch. Rear driveshaft loop is recommended.
  7. OEM type flywheel/clutch assembly only. Minimum flywheel weight fifteen (15) pounds. Any release bearing allowed.
  8. Differential housings may be swapped among manufacturers and must be magnetic. No aluminum gear carriers. May be locked by any means, may be open or an OEM limited slip/positive traction unit may be used.
  9. Gear ratio selection is at the racers discretion.
  10. Housing tubes cannot be cambered.
  11. In the interest of safety, racing axles are required.


  1. Eight (8) inch steel racing wheels allowed in any combination of offset so as to achieve track width and percentages.
  2. Five eighths (5/8) inch wheel studs required.
  3. Must have functioning brakes for all four (4) wheels. All wheel/spindle mounted brake components must be magnetic.
  4. Wiscasset Speedway Official Track Tire = Hoosier 27.0/8.0-15 Compound 700 and Hoosier 27.0/8.0-15 Compound 700.
  5. Wiscasset Speedway shall keep a registered inventory of tires for each Super Street team with all tires being registered to the car number. Super Street teams shall be responsible for their own tire management.  Wiscasset Speedway will not impound, manage or provide storage for team tires.
  6. From April 7th to May 4th, Super Street teams shall have the option to purchase a maximum of six (6) new tires to begin their registered tire inventory for the 2018 racing season. Beginning May 5th, on actual Super Street racing events thereafter, teams shall have the option to purchase a maximum of one (1) new tire for their registered tire inventory.  Should the option of one (1) new tire purchase not be exercised, the option is forfeited.  All tires shall be registered to the car number.
  7. Super Street teams arriving to race after May 4th shall have the option to purchase a maximum of four (4) new tires to begin their registered tire inventory and on actual Super Street racing events thereafter, shall have the option of purchasing a maximum of one (1) new tire for their registered tire inventory. Should the option of one (1) new tire purchase not be exercised, the option shall be forfeited.  All tires shall be registered to the car number.
  8. Should a tire be damaged during the race event, it shall be the responsibility of the race team to present the damaged tire that day and within a timely manner to Tech for inspection. All tire replacements must have a written record with Tech regarding inspection and approval for replacement.  Only tires with 50% or more tread will be eligible for replacement.  Replacement of damaged tires will be limited to three (3) for the season.  No Exceptions.
  9. All cars are subject to random testing at the discretion of Tech, durometer testing will be conducted On Track after heats and features of the top five (5) cars. Failure to meet the 2018 division preset number (Right Sides 50 Left Sides 45 with No Allowances) will be subject to penalty as follows: Heats – illegal tire(s) held at Tech for the remainder of the race event and not allowed again until cleared by Tech; forfeiture of heat points and feature start is rear of the field.  Features – Full DQ with illegal tire(s) not allowed again until cleared by Tech.
  10. While division participants agree use of tire conditioning agents is difficult to police – all agree application of such will not be allowed at the track.
  11. Speedway management reserves the right to modify tire rules in conjunction with division needs & concerns.


  1. Cars are weighed race ready, full of fuel and with driver in the seat.
  2. GM midsize metric……2850 lbs. – 57% left side maximum.
  3. All other……………………2900 lbs. – 56% left side maximum.
  4. All ballast weight must be located outside of the driver compartment with each piece attached with a minimum of two (2) 3/8 inch bolts, washers and locking nuts.
  5. All weight must be lead with each piece painted white and display car number.


  1. Non stock shock location……………………………+50 lbs.
  2. Non stock floor and firewall………………………..+25 lbs.
  3. Two valve relief pistons…………………………….. +25 lbs.
  4. Excessive chassis tubing…………………………… +25 lbs.
  5. Non stock leaf spring front eye mount………+25 lbs.


  1. All car numbers are assigned/registered by Wiscasset Speedway.
  2. When changing divisions, a new number will be assigned.
  3. Car numbers must be a minimum of eighteen (18) inches high and three (3) inches wide.
  4. Numbers shall be painted in contrasting colors to the car on both doors and the roof. Reflective chrome, gold or prism numbers will not be acceptable.
  5. Roof numbers should be visible as read from the grandstand side of the car.
  6. The car number must appear in six (6) inch high numbers in the uppermost corner of the windshield on the passenger side and also on the right rear.


  1. Two way communications shall be allowed; however, Wiscasset Speedway Management will require frequency registration.
  2. RaceCeivers are mandatory equipment.

All race car components, including sealed engines, may be subject to teardown/dismantle inspection at any time.   Refer to General Rules – Tech Information Section.

For the purpose of rule interpretation, the definition of OEM is a part specified by the manufacturer as being for a specific make, year, model of automobile or a commonly available replacement parts supplier such – ie – NAPA, O’Reilly, Car Quest.  This does not include GM Bowtie or Ford SVO.
